Magnifying Angelina Jolie in 'A Mighty Heart'

Either Angelina Jolie has been too big a star for the role of Mariane Pearl in "A Mighty Heart" , or the role has swallowed Jolie's mighty image, as many fans are disappointed with her fake skin and accent. No doubt, there is no spice to make the film a hit, it has already flopped and now Paramount is trying what should be called performing a heart surgery on 'A Mighty Heart', revive its box office collections. Moreover, they are still in lookout for some kind of Oscar buzz for the film.

The film took in $5.4 million for its June 22 opening weekend, drawing a disappointing per-screen average of $2,914. In its second frame, the tally was $1.6 million, Variety reports. That has now a come off to $7.6 million till Wednesday, and it appears that "Heart" turned out to be a tougher sell than the specialty unit had anticipated.

So the Paramount studio has cut the screens in half beginning this weekend. The idea is to keep the film, starring Angelina Jolie, alive in urban and other key markets with the goal of prolonging the box office run -- which can be a key advantage of a more limited play.

The Union-Trib opines that the film's under-performance can't be blamed on poor marketing tactics. Jolie stumped for her film at Cannes and made herself available for middle America, too, appearing on the cover of magazines like Reader's Digest and guesting with Larry King.
